During this Intensive Course Abroad, students can complete Spanish 130 in Alicante, Spain, the "City of Sun," during the January 2019 term. Students will take Spanish language, conversation, and culture classes daily and will visit numerous cultural and historical sites in and around Alicante. These excursions will bring to life many of the topics covered in Gateway to Alicante, a required course for all accepted applicants during the second seven weeks of fall semester. As part of the total immersion experience, participants will stay with Spanish host families. The Program Directors will be Maite Gomis-Quinto and Aida Ramos-Sellman.

Eligibility, Prerequisites, and Academic Credit
Students with a 2.0 or higher GPA who have completed, are currently enrolled, or will be enrolled in Fall 2018 in SP 120. Those recommended SP 130 via Goucher's Spanish Placement Test are also eligible. If you are a first-year student, you must be in good academic standing in all courses. Students will receive 1 credit for the course Gateway to Alicante taught during the second seven weeks of the Fall 2018 semester. Students will receive 4 credits for the three-week intensive course in Alicante. Students will obtain a total of 5 credits.
Application and Study Abroad Deposit Deadlines
March 26, 2018: Applications due
$50 application fee due to OIS (cash or check)
OIS ICA scholarship application due
April 30, 2018: $500 non-refundable confirmation deposit due
September 25, 2018: Final payment, ICA health forms, and passport scan due
The tentative cost of the program is $4,700 (includes individually purchased international airfare estimated at $1,200 per person and daily lunches estimated at $182 per person). The program fee of $3,300 includes lodging, two meals per day (breakfast and dinner), transportation within Spain, excursions, and emergency assistance insurance.
All students are eligible to apply for an OIS ICA scholarship, which is also due March 26, 2018. The scholarship can be found online at abroad.goucher.edu. If you are a Pell Grant recipient and US citizen studying abroad in one country for at least 3 weeks (21 days), you are eligible to apply for the Gilman scholarship where you can be awarded up to $3,000 in aid for your study abroad. Please contact Jennifer White at OIS during her walk-in office hours (Mon.-Thu. 2:30-4pm) in order for her to help you submit the best possible application by the March 6, 2018 deadline for regular summer 2018 notification.
Passport and Visa Information
Students are required to have passports for all Goucher programs. Failure to have a passport will prohibit participation in the program.
