Program Overview

Students will be introduced to and analyze films and film movements from all regions of the Arab world, as well as discuss filmic representations of Arab identities in the context of Nazareth and the Middle East. The course includes workshops and master classes by Palestinian directors, actors and artists, public screenings and interactions with local audiences, and excursions to historical and film sites.
Students will also master rudiments of oral Palestinian Arabic, in order to communicate with people around them.
On-site course: 4 credits total.
A seven-week pre-course Spring Semester on campus: 2 credits.

Eligibility, Prerequisites, and Academic Credit

Applicants should have sophomore standing and/or permission of the instructors, and be in good academic standing (above a 2.0 GPA). Applicants must attend an information session or speak with Professors Zahi Khamis and/or Flo Martin before submitting an application.

Application and Study Abroad Deposit Deadlines
November 7, 2016: $50 non-refundable application fee and online application due

Financial Aid

Loans are also available to eligible students through the Financial Aid Office in SAS. Students who qualify for the study abroad voucher are able to apply the voucher to the cost of this program. Students entering Goucher beginning in Fall 2014 may apply for a Goucher Global Grant in lieu of the study abroad voucher.

All students are encouraged to apply for an OIS Scholarship by the study abroad application deadline.  


Passport and Visa Information
